Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully brought a large industrial fire under control at Yota Energy Company Ltd. in Shai Hills, Greater Accra Region, on Monday, October 13, 2025.
The blaze, which erupted around 11:04 a.m., involved industrial ovens used in extracting pyrolysis oil from tyres. Fire crews from Gbetsile, Devtraco, Tema Metro, and Motorway stations responded swiftly to contain the flames and prevent further spread.

According to GNFS, the fire was confined by 12:55 p.m., brought under control by 8:08 p.m., and fully extinguished by 10:39 p.m. An excavator was later used to separate piles of burning tyres during the overhaul phase.
Despite the scale of the incident, firefighters were able to save approximately 95% of the company’s raw materials and a warehouse. However, three industrial ovens and four control boards sustained partial damage.

Two individuals suffered burns and were taken to Tema General Hospital before emergency crews arrived.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the Tema Regional Public Relations Office of the GNFS.
